Max and McClain

For those of you who wonder what entertains McClain most during the day, I guess I could show you. If McClain is playing in the floor, his buddy Max sits right there with him. If McClain and I are sitting in the chair, Max does his best to position himself as close to us as possible. Max rolls around in the floor, and McClain thinks it's hilarious. Yesterday, McClain and Max were playing ball together- McClain rolled it to Max, and since it was too big for Max to get his teeth around, it got pushed right back to McClain- and McClain could hardly sit there because he was laughing so much. Some say dog is man's best friend- although I like to believe Mommy is McClain's best friend, Max may easily slide in at a close second.

Memorial Day

For Memorial Day, Tim, McClain, and I went hiking at Cumberland Falls State Park with Randy and Amanda Bostic. McClain got to go along in his baby backpack and loved it. We hiked a few trails that were each just a mile or two long. One trail took us down to the falls so we had a chance to get cooled off and play in the water a little. As always, McClain loved the water! We spent the whole day at the park, so we were all exhausted by the time we got home. Thanks to Randy and Amanda for helping make this a great day to relax and have some fun outdoors!

Mother's Day Weekend

On Saturday, Tim, McClain, my sister with her two kids, and I went to the Renaissance Festival. Although parts of it were a little too dramatic for us all, it was over all a very enjoyable day. They had some games and rides that the kids (and Tim, of course) really enjoyed and it was neat to see what things were like during that time period.

On Sunday, Tim gave me a scrapbook that he (and McClain) had been working on for my Mother's Day gift. He made every single bit of it on his own- cut and stained the wood, pieced in leather for the interior, attached hinges and a buckle for closing it, etc. It had pictures in it from when I was pregnant all the way to now. On the outside of the book, he even burnt the words "Happy First Mother's Day, Love Me and McClain" onto the wood. It was very impressive, and I know he put so much time into it. Next year, maybe McClain will be able to help out a little more which will be a great experience for them. After church, we went to lunch and the mall- thanks Tim, and McClain, for making my first mother's day so wonderful!

What Momma means to McClain

So McClain is definitely saying "ma ma" and "da da" now, although I have no idea if he has any clue who or what they refer to. Sometimes I think he may, but then I notice him looking at the bugs that hang from the top of his car seat and calling them "da da". One thing does seem for sure- he may not know exactly who each refers to, but he seems to get the meaning behind each one. That may sound confusing, but it's pretty simple- when he is playing, "da da" seems to be the repetitive phrase. When he is sleepy or in need of something, it's continuous "ma ma"s. So although he may be thinking his toys are his "da da"s and his pacifier, his bed, or a cuddle are his "ma ma"s, I think he gets the important meaning behind it all. Daddy's the most fun; Momma makes me feel better. I have to admit, I'm okay with being the one that does that for him. When he figures out exactly who those words refer to, the meanings will probably pretty much stay the same.

Family pictures

Tim and I had some family pictures taken last week at a farm out in Antioch. The pics were supposed to McClain's 6 month pictures, but he is actually 7 1/2 months by now. We kept having to delay the pictures due to rain, etc. Oh well, he looks the same as he did as 6 months (well, pretty much). He gets cuter every day anyways- if that's possible. We haven't been able to view all the pictures yet; these are just a few that the photographer let us see as a sneak peek.

The Memphis Zoo

Sunday, May 6, Tim, McClain, and I went to the Memphis Zoo on our way home from visiting friends. We all had a great time! McClain especially loved playing in the fountain as you can see.
